Rivercity Players

Our mission: enriching the creative culture of the community  through the performing arts.

Rivercity Players is planning a Christmas variety show this year, and looking for local talent to be in the show!

An open mike audition night is planned for August 23.  Director Dee Poulton is looking for all kinds of talent – musicians, comedians, singers, spoken word – any genre of the performing arts.  All performances should be family friendly and Christmas themed, and last 2 to 3 minutes.  Anyone aged 14 and over is welcome to come and perform.

“I like the old time variety shows,” says Poulton, “I love the surprise of what is coming out next.”  She feels a show of this nature will fit in well with the local Christmas season.

Poulton also directs the Dark Night Players – Rivercity Players sketch comedy troupe.  New members are always welcome to come and check it out – no experience necessary.

Please contact Poulton at info@rivercityplayers.ca for more information and to sign up to perform at the open mike night.  The Christmas production will be held at Rivercity Stage December 3 to 7.

After a very successful season (thank you to all our supporters!), Rivercity Players is looking towards the 2024/2025 season, starting with our One Act Plays production.

We are looking for actors aged 18 and over, male and female, to act in three short plays. A variety of plays are being considered – both comedy and drama. One act plays are more flexible in rehearsals, and a great opportunity for someone new to the theatre. This year’s directors are Dennis Hawkins-Bogle, Melony Larre (both first time directors) and Lynne Macara. When asked what made her decide to try directing, Larre said “I found a funny play and pitched it to another member of Rivercity Players and she suggested I direct it. I never thought of myself in that role honestly, but then I realized I’d helped backstage and been onstage, so this was a really good opportunity to progress. I had a vision for the play as soon as I read it so that likely helped me decide as well!”

Auditions will be held at the Rivercity Stage, 1080 Hemlock Street on Sunday, June 9 at 7:00. Call backs are scheduled for June 10 and 11. Production dates are September 18 to 21. Audition form is attached.

There are many other ways to be involved in the theatre! We are looking for everyone from directors to stage/tech crew to costume/hair makeup. Whether your skills and interests are financial, organizational, technical or artistic, we have a place for you and would love to have your help to bring our productions to life. Working in the theatre is a team effort, and we look forward to having you join our team.
