Hi Lorna

As you know Bill Walton is going to direct No Sex Please We're
British.  I have been asked to work as producer, and as such have a
request to make of you.  Would you please send an email to the general
membership asking who is interested in working on this production, we
need a full crew.  ASM, set, props, costumes, make-up, sound, lights,
the whole works.  The move in date to the Tidemark is the 31st of
October and the show will run until the 14th of November.

You can ask people to email me if you like.  We will be setting up a
production meeting as soon as we get some response.

Thanking you in advance

Mary

ps.  Heidi was concerned that you only have the paid members on your
list.  It is imperative to contact previous members also.  If you need
the list of members whose membership has expired then please contact
Heidi.  I would like to reach as many people as possible and whether
or not they are paid up is of no consequence.  People can pay
membership when they come on board.

I am happy to announce the new board...

Congratulations to the new board. Thank you again to the out going board for donation of their valuable time to the club. I hope that all members can work together to continue the momentum of the past 2 years.  During the last five full productions, one act night and fundraisers, there have been over 150 positions that members have filled by actively participating either on stage or behind the scenes. We have over 140 active (paid dues) members. There have been some problems and I look at these as opportunities to grow.  I have certainly learned a lot about myself and the club in the last two years.  I broke the cardinal rule which is to leave your crap at the door and come with an open heart and have fun.  I welcome your input on how to make things better.  I want that all members, even those that didn't vote for me, to know that I am open to their concerns.  I promise to always treat each member with respect and patience.  Please contact me anytime to discuss how we can all move on to a happier, healthier club.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Greetings!

ECHO  Players is looking forward to hosting the 2010 Theatre BC, North Island Zone Drama Festival from April 26 to April 30, 2010 at The Village Theatre in Qualicum Beach, and the Awards Banquet on May 1. Our organizing committee has been working hard to assemble an amazing week of theatre, fellowship, networking, adjudicating, and of course, the opportunity to learn from each other.

This letter will hopefully fill in some of the details you'll need to complete your arrangements for attending our festival in Qualicum and for the awards banquet. We hope you will consider coming for the entire week, and encourage others to do so as well.

Please forward this notice to anyone, in your club, or other, that you think might like to know these details. In the event that you have any questions, please contact me by reply e-mail, or during the day at 250-752-1980.

Dear Members,

Below find a synopsis for Monday's January 18th Play Reading selection. Please come out and not only have fun and gain experience reading scripts but also have valuable input into the next year's season. 7:30 at the clubhouse.

"Inside of a five-and-dime store, a reunion is planned for the members of a local 1950s James Dean fan club. As an odd assortment of women arrive, hidden secrets are revealed, and in flashbacks to 1955, the women are shown as young James Dean fans. The action jumps forward again to present day (1975) to reveal the ravages of time and lost innocence.

Among the women returning for the reunion is Mona, a disturbed woman who, in the '50s, got a job as an extra on the Giant shoot and nine months later gave birth to a son, who she claims is James Dean's child. There is Sissy, a wisecracking waitress, and also Joanne, who holds a shocking secret that is revealed at the reunion. Besides the three main players, a collection of supporting characters maneuver around the periphery. They are Stella Mae, the wife of a rich petroleum executive; Edna Louise, a shy, withdrawn woman with numerous children; Juanita, the manager of the five-and-dime store; and Joe Qualley, a young man who likes to dress up in women's clothing. The female characters range in age from 30-50. The young man probably early 20’s."

Dec 19, 2009

Dear Members,

Well I hope you are all ready for Xmas! I am going to spend Xmas with my 9 month pregnant sister, so I guess I am getting a niece for Xmas!

On behalf of Rivercity Players may I wish each of you joy and happiness for the holidays and the New Year!

We are having our first full run of Lend Me A Tenor on Sunday followed by a production meeting.  Rehearsal starts at 1pm so we should have the meeting around 3:30 pm.

Please come out if you are interested in helping out. There are still a couple of positions to fill and we can always use assistants. This is a great way to learn.

Remember we can always work around your schedule, and even if you can just help out for a couple of hours painting or what ever! If you can't make the meeting but still want to be involved please let me know before the meeting.

Dear Members,

Christmas Party News

First of all thank you to all that came out to the Xmas party. What great food! Next time I will bring more pies!! It was great to see some new faces along with some older ones!

Sweet Charity

We have almost completed the tally for Sweet Charity and it looks like it was a financial as well as critical success!! Thank you again to the cast and crew, especially Heather Gordon Murphy, John Bailey and Colleen Lornie, for their hard work to make the show a success! I hope you all had fun and will come play again!

Lend Me A Tenor

We have begun rehearsals for Lend Me A Tenor and I sure laughed a lot! We have most of the crew but are missing a few key positions. We have a crew to build, a design, but we need to find someone to be  Construction Supervisor for the set.

We are also still looking for someone to...

- design the lighting (again we have a crew),

- someone for costumes and

- someone to do the sound

...Other wise we are fully crewed and are on track for the next show.

The set is a hotel room in a luxury hotel in 1934 in Cleveland.

The production dates are:

February 8th move into Tidemark, with shows on February 11th-14th with a matinee on Sunday, February 15th.  It is a one week run.

And lastly, please let me know if you are interested in a more intense workshop on set construction and lighting design.  We would bring in a professional and the cost would be nominal.  We need these positions and if the interest is there, perhaps we can subsidize some of the workshop costs.

Theatre BC Cutbacks

And lastly there have been some major upsets at Theatre BC.  Due to the cutbacks in funding the office will shut in February. There will be a meeting to discuss the future and whether or not it will survive. This would mean an end to festivals. Please email me and let me know your thoughts and I will pass them on to the North Island Zone Chair.

Please click here for more information, if you want to take action now!

I look forward to hearing from you. Thank you for your time and consideration.

November 16 2009

Dear Members,

We have decided to switch some dates around.

On November 30 we will have a brief general meeting which will include assigning positions for the next production.  This will be followed by our Xmas party.

We will start the meeting at 6:30 pm followed by food and fun... Potluck dinner and White Elephant gift exchange.

THE GIFT EXCHANGE:  Consists of exchanging some small gifts, where we draw numbers to determine who gets to pick a gift first - but the next person can either pick a new gift or take one that has already been opened.  It's great fun!

BRING: A "potluck" dish, BYOB and CD's.

The December General meeting will be cancelled.

Again if you have anything you would like to add to the newsletter or ideas for the website please let me know.

We could also still use some help with fundraising and grant writing if anyone is interested.

And lastly - a few people to help decorate for the party and/or clean up the next day.

Remember!  Without your valuable contribution we are nothing, and I am always here to listen to your ideas of how to make the club more successful and fun.
